When you embark on a gluten-free lifestyle, the first thing that usually comes to mind is: what are the naturally gluten-free desserts that you can eat when you go out to eat, or that you can cook and be sure you won’t miss?
And yes, culinary outings can sometimes be a real challenge for gluten-free people, but don’t worry, Gluten Libre is here to support you in this new culinary life, which, I assure you, will literally change your life, FOR THE BETTER! (it’s up to you to take it in the right direction 🙂 )
I’ve been there, I was very upset, sad, I was scared, but you adapt to everything. You learn to find alternatives, or relearn to cook and, above all, to have fun cooking. So, yes, there will be mistakes, and more mistakes.
But take the example of a child who falls hundreds of times before managing to walk. It’s just like us, we’ll fall down and make mistakes on tons of recipes until the day we get it right!
But before you get bogged down in desserts that you want to cook with gluten-free products, try these naturally gluten-free desserts, you’ll see, they’ll make you happy!
Here are my tips and all the naturally gluten-free nuggets & desserts that you can still eat if you’re following a gluten-free diet out of obligation or choice.
1. Fruit salad is naturally gluten-free
So yes, in many restaurants you’ll still (well, very regularly) be able to enjoy this naturally gluten-free dessert: fruit salad. A word of advice: always ask if it’s fresh fruit, because if it’s not, it might not be very good.
It’s easy to make your own: mix seasonal fruit with a little freshly squeezed fruit juice, a tablespoon of sugar for those with a sweet tooth, or honey.
2. Chocolate mousse
I’m a big fan of chocolate and in restaurants I’ve never seen a single chocolate mousse made with wheat! If that’s the case… then you’re teaching me something. For a chocolate mousse: you need chocolate, egg and sugar, that’s all! My recipe right here for my mum’s chocolate mousse with no regrets!
3. Crème brulée, a naturally gluten-free dessert
So, crème brulĂ©e, the great friend of gluten-free people, but the worst enemy of lactose-free people… Yes, crème brulĂ©e is always gluten-free (once again, if you see that a restaurant uses wheat, you’re telling me something!).
If you want to make it yourself, here’s a very simple recipe:
To make 6 small crème brûlées, start by preheating your oven to 160°, then in a saucepan, heat 500 ml of cream with a vanilla pod, then bring to the boil. In a bowl, mix together 6 egg yolks and 40g sugar.
When your cream is boiling, pour this mixture over your egg yolks/sugar, then strain to remove only the juice. Serve in 6 ramekins to make your crèmes brulées.
Place in the oven on a baking tray filled with water (like a bain-marie), and bake for 25 minutes at 160°. Then chill in the fridge for at least 4 minutes and when done, sprinkle your crèmes brulées with brown sugar and caramelise them with a blowtorch.
4. The floating islandÂ
Another dessert for gluten-free lovers, the floating island. Still gluten-free, this naturally gluten-free dessert is made with the same ingredients as crème brulĂ©e: cream, egg and sugar! Leave a comment if you’d like the recipe!
5. Rice pudding
The ultimate gluten-free dessert: rice? Of course it’s gluten-free.
So don’t take any risks in restaurants, this dessert is guaranteed gluten-free … (normally, that is).
The recipe is so easy that I’m sharing it with you here: For 4 people, boil 1 litre of milk with 4 tablespoons of sugar.
As soon as it comes to the boil, pour in 100 g of white rice (preferably round grains!) and turn down the heat for about 20 minutes.
Pour into ramekins and sprinkle with vanilla. Leave to cool and enjoy with or without jam!
6. The panna cotta
A delicious dessert that’s naturally gluten-free! Yes, this dessert is made from cream, milk, gelatine, sugar and vanilla! You won’t be taking any risks when you order a good panna cotta in a restaurant.
7. Coconut rocks
I have to be honest, I’ve never tried coconut rocher… But I’ve heard great things about it. I promise I’ll come up with a great recipe for coconut rocher! In any case, all I know is that it’s a naturally gluten-free dessert!
8. Meringue
Meringue, a gluten-free friend, that’s for sure! Perhaps one of the only pastries we can eat in bakeries!
So make the most of it… It’s really very tasty and very easy to make! Mind your teeth… It’s generally a very sweet dessert!
9. MacaronsÂ
So I’ve seen all sorts of macaroons: with gluten and without… But believe me (or not), the original recipe is not made with wheat!
So always ask first, but normally macaroons are a good dessert and naturally gluten-free! For my macaroon recipe, click here!
I hope I’ve helped you by sharing my experience and all the naturally gluten-free desserts I can think of!
